About us
MARITECH Maritime Training and Assessment Center Corp. (formerly MARITECH Maritime Training, Studies & Manning Services, Inc.) was approved and incorporated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on September 8, 2006, with Registration No. CS200614278. Its permanent site is located at 3rd, 4th, and 6th Floors FRC Commercial Building, Pedro Gil St. corner Taft Avenue, Malate, Manila, in a six-story building which houses the simulators and various equipment for training. The branch is located at 2nd Floor, Pueblo Aznar Uno, MJ Cuenco St. corner Gen. Maxilom St., Cebu City.
In 2005, Capt. Edwin M.
Itable publicly introduced Ship Maneuvering Mechanics and Fundamentals of Shiphandling
(SMMFS), a training course he himself developed. The launching, made possible with the help of
several friends, was a big success; SMMFS was acclaimed an ideal preparatory
training course for any deck officer.
Notwithstanding, Capt.
Itable did not have resources to establish an institution to train marine deck
officers, particularly in ship maneuvering and shiphandling wherein cadets had
never been formally trained. In quest for a financier, Capt. Rovigon C. Garcia,
Mr. Materiales' associate, welcomed Capt. Itable and his project. The trio decided to go into business
partnership. Thus, MARITECH Maritime Training And Assessment Center Corp. was
incorporated with Mr. Nestor S. Materiales as the President, Capt. Rovigon
Garcia as the Vice-President and General Manager, and Capt. Edwin M. Itable as
both the Administrative Director and Training Director.
MARITECH's primary purpose is to operate a training center aimed to improve the skills and technical know-hows of marine deck officers. Immediately, we applied for ISO 9001:2000 certification. Engr. Giovanni D. Fernandez, an auditor for AJA Registrars, was enlisted for this purpose. He designed office forms, put the documents in order, refined policies, etc., and conducted seminars to orient us with ISO. The April 4, 2007 audit was hurdled with minor non-conformances. The ISO certificate dated April 18, 2007 stated that our scope of registration is to conduct simulator-based training for Management Level Officers.
On September 27, 2006, Capt. Itable wrote the Maritime Training Council a letter of intent as training provider of MLC inspection team consisted of representatives from agencies composing the Maritime Training Council. They determined that MARITECH is eligible as MLC training provider and was issued Certificate of Accreditation on February 29, 2008. Not much later, Capt. Itable applied for and was granted authorization by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to offer Ship Simulator and Bridge Teamwork as well as to conduct Practical Assessment Using Simulators.
MARITECH invited Prof. Remedios C. Cagulada, an academician who served the maritime industry as a member for years, readily accepted. Other faculty members were Capt. Rustico Sevilla, Capt. Ronieto Relevo, and seasoned pilot Capt. Simeon B. Balita.
The operations of MARITECH went smoothly for years, with the skills and vast knowledge of Capt. Itable and with the contribution of the experienced trainers, assessors, instructors, and staff helping with its success.
In January 2021, Capt. Itable unfortunately succumbed from an illness and the President of the company, Mr. Nestor Materiales, took over with managing the training and assessment center on February 2021 to continue the operations of the company.
The management of MARITECH decided to rename the company to its new name, MARITECH Maritime Training And Assessment Corp. in February 2024 to align with the company's current business offerings that focus on practical assessment and training. Spearheading together with Mr. Materiales is Capt. Simeon Flores, the new Assessment Director for Manila, and Capt. Arthur EspaƱola, the tenured Assessment Director for Cebu.
