What is Panama PDE?
Panama Previous Documentation Evaluation (PDE) refers to a process where the Panama Maritime Authority reviews a seafarer's existing documents to verify if they meet the required standards to work on a Panama-flagged vessel, essentially checking if their training and experience are sufficient to serve on a Panamanian ship; this evaluation is usually done by authorized maritime training centers and is required for seafarers from certain countries like India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, and the Philippines who wish to work on Panama-registered vessels.
Purpose:
To assess if a seafarer's existing certificates, sea service documents, and other credentials meet the Panama Maritime Authority's standards for working on a Panama-flagged ship.
Who needs it:
Primarily required for seafarers from specific countries like India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, and the Philippines who want to work on Panama-registered vessels.
Process:
Maritime training centers authorized by Panama review the seafarer's documents and issue a PDE certificate if they meet the requirements.
Importance:
Obtaining a PDE certificate is necessary to apply for a Panamanian Seaman's Book and work on a Panama-flagged vessel.
